Former boxing world champions Marcos Maidana and Adrien Broner are looking to get a shot against Manny Pacquiao, who is expected to look for big fights in 2015.
Maidana, who is coming off two straight defeats to Floyd Mayweather in May and September, is reportedly eyeing a showdown against Pacquiao. His trainer, Robert Garcia, also added in an interview that he also wants his fighter to have a shot against the former pound-for-pound king next year.
"I would love for him to fight Pacquiao," Garcia said via BoxingScene. "That's the fight that I would love, but that's between his managers and his promotional teams."
Maidana, who holds a 35-5 record with 31 knockouts, managed to impress during his first fight against Mayweather as he pushed the unbeaten champion to the limit. He settled for a majority decision loss in May, but failed to duplicate his performance last month as Mayweather ran away with unanimous decision loss.
But despite suffering a lopsided loss to Mayweather, Garcia is optimistic that Maidana will get big fights in 2015. Aside from Pacquiao, Garcia said that they want a rematch against either Adrien Broner or Amir Khan.
"He's' resting up for the rest of the year. Hopefully by next year he'll get something big. There's a lot of big fights out there. Especially if we're talking about a rematch with Broner, a rematch with Amir Khan," Garcia said.
Khan defeated Maidana in December 2010 via unanimous decision, while Broner lost his World Boxing Association welterweight title in December last year to the Argentine power puncher.
Meanwhile, Broner, who holds a 29-1 record with 22 knockouts, reiterated that he also wants a shot against Pacquiao after having a rematch with Maidana. The 25-year-old Cincinnati, Ohio native is also eyeing a shot against Juan Manuel Marquez and Lucas Matthysse.
"I want to fight Pacquiao, Marquez, Matthysse, and Maidana again. Matter of fact I want to fight Maidana first to get you out the way," Broner said via BoxingNews24.
After losing to Maidana, Broner has bounce back with two straight victories. He scored a lopsided decision win against Carlos Molina in May, which was followed by another unanimous decision victory against Emmanuel Taylor last month.
