The 2014-15 NBA season is about to begin, which means that fantasy owners' road to winning their respective leagues will also start on Tuesday. But if you have yet to draft your players, here is a quick look at the top point guards this season according to NBA.com.
The talk about the top point guards in terms of fantasy potential boils down between Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers.
But among the two superstar playmakers, Curry ranked first on the draft big board mainly because of his eligibility to be played for both guard positions - point guard and shooting guard.
Curry, who is also three-years younger than Paul, is expected to have another big year this season as the Warriors try to establish themselves as a perennial contender in the Western Conference.
The 26-year-old guard, who will be entering in his sixth season in the league, had his best year last season when he averaged 24.0 points and 8.5 assists - both career-highs. He also made a lot of fantasy owners smile with his 3.3 three-pointers per game along with his 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 47.1 percent shooting from the field.
Paul, on the other hand, averaged 19.1 points to go along with 10.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds last season, but only had 1.3 three-pointers last season.
But if you are not worried about your three-pointers, Paul should be on top of your list because he takes care of the ball better than Curry with only 2.3 turnovers compared to Curry's 3.8 last season. Owners should be wary of Paul's health, though, after missing 20 regular-season games last season.
Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder ranked third among the point guards after averaging 21.8 points to go along with 6.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game last season.
The 25-year-old is expected to produce well at the start of the season with Kevin Durant out for the Thunder for several games after undergoing foot surgery. However, his health is a red flag after playing in just 46 games last season due to injuries, primarily because of his ailing knee.
John Wall of the Washington Wizards and Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers rank fourth and fifth, respectively.
On the other hand, fantasy owners should keep an eye on Jeremy Lin. While he is not expected to have a repeat of "Linsanity" in Los Angeles, he is expected to produce well as the Lakers' starting point guard this season.
