Bret Michaels surgery - Poison frontman Bret Michaels, who is suffering from diabetes, has been hospitalized six times in the past two weeks following a recent kidney surgery.
The news of Bret Michaels' surgery and his health problems was disclosed on Monday by his best friend and guitarist Pete Evick via Facebook and the singer's website.
"This past week Bret had to have surgery on his kidneys. With all diabetes there are extra precautions and sometimes complications," he wrote.
Evick explained to fans that the singer has had to cancel his tours due to health problems.
"The pain that led to the original surgery was so great that he simply could not perform last Thursday in Champaign. It first started in Mundelein, Illinois a few nights before. Even through Bret kept that to himself, it was noticeable that he wasn't feeling great."
Evick says the doctors refused to release Brett Michaels, forcing him to postpone a charity event he was set to stage. According to Evick, Brett Michaels is devastated.
"It's actually honorable to me that he always brings up the concern for the fans first before addressing his condition," his statement read.
Evick revealed that Brett Michaels has been admitted in up to six hospitals in the Midwest in the past two weeks. But despite Bret Michaels' surgery, the singer is reportedly eager to return to the stage.
"He truly has to be held down to not perform," Evick said.
Reports indicate that the singer of NBC's Celebrity Apprentice reality show had two stents put in his body after a concert in Champaign. A team of doctors had also advised him to stay off the stage until he recovers, but the 51-year-old rocker resisted.
Evick said while Bret Michaels was able to put on a great show during his subsequent concerts in Memphis Tigers and Knoxville, the consequences were grave.
"Jumping around with two stents was a bad idea...I can't explain the amount of blood or where it came from, but it was horrifying on his bus after the show," he revealed.
Evick has assured fans that following Bret Michaels' surgery, the singer is concerned for his health but has no intentions of rescheduling his shows.
Bret Michaels' surgery and recent health scare add to a list of health problems the singer has faced. In 2010, the rockstar was reportedly admitted to a hospital after the left side of his body went numb. In the same year, Bret Michaels suffered from brain hemorrhage, he also had emergency appendectomy.
