A Houston dog stuck in jug for over two months has been set free by a local family who plan to adopt the 5-month old mixed breed German shepherd puppy.
The Houston dog stuck in jug was alleged to be searching for food when he got caught in the life-threatening confine, according to Audra Bohannon, who found the animal on her Harris County property. She said she felt guilty for the state of the animal, which she has since named Bucky (short for Bucket) - knowing that the feeder stuck on his head came from her barn.
After several weeks of failed attempts, the Houston dog stuck in jug was finally caught and set free with the help of family and friends. Bohannon recorded the rescue of Bucky.
The Houston dog stuck in jug looked stunned when he is initially set free from the jug, but is shown in another frame looking much livelier.
"We got him up here, cleaned him up," Bohannon said. "He was flea infested, but other than that, he was just a little skiddish."
She says she intends to take little Bucky to a vet to ascertain if he has an identification chip on him. Meanwhile, Bohannon's relatives say they are interested in keeping Bucky with them forever.
The rescue of the Houston dog stuck in jug has been widely reported online. It is unclear where the dog came from, but experts say given its young age, it must have escaped from somewhere nearby.
The Houston dog stuck in jug is not as rare as you may have thought. In September, a plastic container was removed from the head of a stray California dog. Residents had seen the animal and alerted the authorities.
The rescue of the Houston dog stuck in jug has raised commentaries on the need for effective animal control. Controlling stray dogs is a problem in the city, where over a million dogs are believed to be roaming the streets.
