Former UFC standout Brandon "The Truth" Vera has a little more ill feelings left towards his former employer.
Now fighting for Singapore-based mixed martial arts Promotion Company ONE Fighting Championships (ONE FC), Vera expressed his disappointment with the way the UFC handled his release.
In a report by MMAFighting.com, the 37-year old Filipino-American fighter only knew about his release through social media. "The Truth" had been underperforming for the UFC's standards, winning only one of his last six fights with the company.
The report adds that when he turned down a contract extension offered by the UFC brass, it was then when he found out that he was being given his walking papers already. And according to Vera, no one called him up to inform him about it beforehand.
"I was a loyal employee, never did anything incorrectly," he said. "Never beat up my wife. Never had a DUI. The respect wasn't there."
Vera adds that in spring, UFC president Dana White still wanted to work out a deal, even if the first one was already turned down. He also noted that White promised to get in touch with after he got back from China for the UFC Macau pre-fight media obligations, but the call never came. It was days after when he found out about his release.
Upon getting a call to fight for ONE FC in Manila, Brandon says that he did not think twice about saying yes. As for the UFC, he has already put it in his past, noting that he has found a better company to fight under.
"I had no interest in UFC anymore at all," Vera explained. "It worked out 100 percent in my favor."
"The Truth" (13-7, with one no contest) just won his debut with ONE FC earlier against another Philippine hometown favorite, Igor Subora by first round knockout at the event ONE FC: Warrior's Way at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Philippines.
