Oscar De La Hoya has gigantic plans for Amir Khan.
As the 28-year old English boxer prepares himself for battle this weekend against former WBC and IBF light welterweight champion Devon Alexander, De La Hoya, who is Khan's promoter, revealed what his future intentions are.
"I'm pushing for a Pacquiao fight," De La Hoya declared in a report by The Guardian. "And I'm also pushing for a Mayweather fight."
Ironically, Khan is connected with both superstar boxers in some way. He used to be Pacquiao's sparring partner back when he was training under Freddie Roach at West Hollywood's Wild Card Gym, while his name has been associated to Floyd Mayweather's since last year.
For the first time in his career, Khan will be headlining a boxing event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The bout is stipulated to be a title eliminator, aiming to determine who will be the next challenger for Floyd Mayweather's WBC welterweight title. For either fighters, or any fighter for that matter, that pushes for one lucrative, career-changing deal.
For De La Hoya's part as a promoter, he believes that either fight is already a long time coming for a fighter like Khan, whom he described as someone who is still constantly improving. He also believes that as long as "King Khan" continues with his winning ways, one of these match-ups will come into fruition.
"The Golden Boy" also believes that between the two fighters, Pacquiao is an easier bout to make, noting that since former CEO Richard Schaefer left Golden Boy Promotions, their relationship with the Mayweather camp may have been compromised as well.
Since his devastating loss to reigning WBC and WBA light welterweight champion Danny Garcia in July 2012, Khan has been on a hot streak, winning all of his succeeding fights. This has led Oscar De La Hoya to believe that a big-named fighter should be given to Khan, whom he believes will have a big year in 2015.
"I've always said if you put him up to the test, if you put him up against a Floyd Mayweather, a Manny Pacquiao, don't be surprised if he wins," De La Hoya said.
