As many as two tornadoes struck Texas on Tuesday, as a tornado emergency warning was issued by the National Weather Service in the Dallas and the Fort Worth area.
The tornadoes left a path of destruction, tossing tractor trailers in the air, damaging homes, and grounding all area planes, Reuters reported. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The "large and extremely dangerous" tornadoes prompted the National Weather Service to issue a "tornado emergency" warning on its website.
"Two tornadoes are currently affecting the DFW metroplex. Take cover now!" the warning read on the site.
The first tornado struck south of Dallas around 2 p.m. EST according to Reuters, near Lancaster, heading east across Dallas County, while another tornado formed in Mansfield. Neither tornado approached downtown Dallas, though heavily populated areas south of Dallas were reported to have been affected.
The National Weather Service claimed that considerable damage occurred in Cleberne, a town of approximately 30,000 people.
About 30,000 people were without power as a result of the storms, which also dumped golf-ball size hail on the region, MSNBC reported.
The National Weather Service gave some precautionary advice to those in the path of the Texas tornadoes before the tornadoes struck.
"TO PROTECT YOUR LIFE ...TAKE COVER NOW! MOVE UNDERGROUND OR TO AN INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF A STURDY BUILDING. AVOID WINDOWS. IF IN A MOBILE HOME...A VEHICLE OR OUTDOORS...MOVE TO THE CLOSEST SUBSTANTIAL SHELTER AND PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FLYING DEBRIS," the website said.
