Mickey Rourke Dive - The 29-year-old man who fought against actor Mickey Rourke in Moscow last month has finally admitted that the boxing match between them was staged.
Elliot Seymour told TMZ in LA this past weekend that he agreed to be paid $15,000 to fight with Mickey Rourke and dive in the second round. However, the former California Golden Gloves champion, who has a professional record of 1-9, says he believes Rourke was in the dark about the fact that the contest had been fixed between him and Vadim Kornilov, the actor's boxing manager.
Many commentators had remarked on the slow pace of the boxing match, which ended in the second round after Rourke landed Seymour a rather feeble body shot. Now, Seymour has shed light on the incidental knock-out after he revealed that the entire fight was choreographed. He said his fall in the second round was also part of the deal, which also stipulated that he was not to punch Rourke in the face.
The 'Mickey Rourke dive' disclosure has made headlines since Seymour spoke to the press. Seymour, who was allegedly broke before the fight, says he is confessing because he was paid only part of his fee for the fight. According to him, the agreement for the 'Mickey Rourke dive' was that he would get $10,000 in Moscow and the rest after he returned to the country. But he says he has not been paid his remaining fee for diving.
Rourke's team has since admitted that Seymour was paid only $10,000. Kornilov said he was paid $5,000 less because $10,000 is the highest amount he could take through customs.
Rourke and his team, who deny fixing the match, have accused Seymour of basking in the spotlight of the press and fabricating untrue stories in order to get more attention. It is unclear why he has not been paid his remaining fee.
Kornilov had earlier revealed that Seymour was the third choice for the fight against Rourke. He was reportedly chosen because he meets a 'certain level.'
The 'Mickey Rourke dive' revelation is just one of several scandalous stories that have broken since the 62-year-old took on the boxing amateur, who is more than three decades younger than him, and won in Nov. Critics say the 'Mickey Rourke dive' allegation is a blemish on the storied career of the actor, who has dabbled in boxing over the years.
