Santa Robs Bank - Police in San Francisco say a man wearing a Santa Claus costume has robbed a downtown bank at gun point.
According to local sources, the incident happened on Saturday during the annual pub crawl, popularly known as SantaCon, which sees hundreds of people donning Santa suits and marching around the streets in celebration.
Authorities say the robber took advantage of the festivities and walked into a Wells Fargo Bank located on 400 block of Shutter Street around 1 p.m. The thief then passed a note to the teller, telling her that he was armed with a handgun and wanted cash.
Police Sgt. Monica MacDonald said preliminary investigations shows that the handgun Santa claimed to be holding was never seen. However, the teller didn't feel like it was a wise decision to question the authenticity of Santa's statement. So she reportedly handed him a bag full of cash. Afterwards Santa walked out into the marching crowd of other merry making Santas and was never caught.
"Any other day, Santa would have stood out," McDonald said. "But that day Santa was everywhere."
Officials have not disclosed the name of the teller or how much money Santa rob from the bank. But reports indicate that Well Fargo is cooperating with investigators to bring the thief to book.
Investigators say the bank thief, who was disguised in Santa suit, is a Caucasian male between the ages of 40 to 50 years old. He is also suspected to be about 6 feet tall.
Reports indicate that the San Francisco Police Department is working in collaboration with the FBI to apprehend the suspect. It is unclear if they have been able to find evidence that will reveal the identity of this bad Santa.
Authorities say anybody with information concerning the whereabouts of the suspect should immediately call 911 or (415) 392-2623 or may text a tip to 847411.
