Stephen Collins revealed that he sexually abused three under aged girls, People reported.
Stephen Collins who played as Rev. Eric Camden in the series "7th Heaven" confessed about sexually abusing minors. The 67-year-old actor molested three young women from 1973 to 1994.
It can be recalled that an audio tape of Collins revealing the sexual assaults was publicized two months ago. The actor finally broke his silence about the incident, TIME reported.
"Forty years ago, I did something terribly wrong that I deeply regret. I have been working to atone for it ever since. I've decided to address these issues publicly because two months ago, various news organizations published a recording made by my then-wife, Faye Grant, during a confidential marriage therapy session in January, 2012. This session was recorded without the therapist's or my knowledge or consent," Collins wrote.
Aside from admitting his mistakes, Collins wanted to clarify the details since he believed that the story was blown out of proportion, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"On the recording, I described events that took place 20, 32, and 40 years ago. The publication of the recording has resulted in assumptions and innuendos about what I did that go far beyond what actually occurred. As difficult as this is, I want people to know the truth," Collins added.
Collins has agonized about asking for forgiveness from the victims. The struggle of making amends was a difficult experience for the actor much more to the women.
"I did have an opportunity to do so with one of the women, 15 years later. I apologized and she was extraordinarily gracious. But after I learned in the course of my treatment that my being direct about such matters could actually make things worse for them by opening old wounds, I have not approached the other two women, one of whom is now in her 50s and the other in her 30s," Collins revealed.
A former executive from the network, which aired "7th Heaven," found the story unbelievable. The executive worked with Collins and thought that he was a good man.
"This is a shock. I found him amazing to work with. He was never more professional. He was a businessman, a star, a leader, a team captain. I loved him. He saved the show. He was a go-to guy," the executive said.
An in-depth interview with Collins about the sexual abuse cases will be streamed on Yahoo on Friday and air on 20/20 on ABC.
