Crooks Steal From 5-year-Old - Police in St. Louis are searching for burglars who stole toys and gifts belonging to a 5-year-old brain cancer patient.
According to local reports, the unscrupulous crooks broke into the apartment on Wednesday afternoon and went straight for little Kamareon Smith's room. They stole his favorite toys and games including a Play Station 4 and two television sets, which were reportedly Kamareon's Christmas gifts.
"Came back to my house (with) the door being kicked open and the stuff being gone," Kamareon's mother Quinetta Smith said.
About 8 months ago, Kamareon was diagnosed with a brain tumor and Quinetta Smith, a single mother, has been struggling to care for him, his brothers and the cost of his chemotherapy treatment.
"I'm struggling with taking care of my sick child that's fighting for his life." Quinetta Smith said.
Reports indicate that a charity organization, working with a hospital, who adopted Kamareon, have been helping Quinetta Smith with his medical bills. They even sent him Christmas presents in advance - most of which the crooks donated to themselves.
"They adopted him and brought him multiple gifts and things for him to have a good Christmas," Kamareon said. She said that the crooks ignored other gifts that were placed on the living room floor and stole only Kamareon's gifts and favorite electronic toys.
"And the one thing that he likes to do-watch TV-his TV is gone," Quinetta Smith exclaimed. According to her, the surprise theft has dampened her efforts to provide her family with a good Christmas.
"We have a very supportive family so I won't say it's ruined but for me to have to live here and to continue not to be able to leave, my kids Christmas stuff can't stay here," she says.
St. Louis police say an investigation into the burglary and theft has been opened. Officials have urged the public to call (866)371- with information relating to the burglary and theft.
