Hellcat One Hour Totaled - The very first 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat sold in Colorado has been destroyed in an accident just one hour after it was purchased.
According to Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the incident happened at 8:07 p.m. on Dec. 19th, when the driver of the Challenger Hellcat lost control and crashed into a tree.
Local sources have identified the driver as 34-year-old Lance Utley, a resident of Winter Par, CO. He is said to have lost control of the powerful car while traveling on the northbound Riverdale Rd. The crash, which has been dubbed 'Hellcat one hour totaled', has made headlines.
TFLCar.com writes:
"The Hellcat may have been in a slight drift. The road is very narrow, but in good condition, well marked, and with a posted 40 MPH speed limit sign. The car started to drift toward the right after the speed limit sign. The driver tried to connect, but the resulting over-correction sent the car across the lane and into a large cottonwood (tree.)"
Sources say no injuries were reported in the incident. All three occupants of the car are reportedly alright. Utley has been charged with careless driving. However, officials have ruled out the influence of drugs and alcohol in the Hellcat one hour totaled accident.
Reports indicate that Utley lost control of the vehicle because of its ability to reach high speeds quickly. The Hellcat, which comes with a 707 horsepower 6.2L Supercharged HEMI V8, is said to be one of the most powerful cars Dodge muscle car engines ever produced.
Authorities say an investigation into the crash of the Challenger Hellcat is underway. Officials are looking to see if the weather and conditions of the road, which has a speed limit of 40 mph, may have led to the crash.
The accident, which lead to the Hellcat one hour totaled, occurred only a few miles from the dealership where the car was purchased. Many commentators have noted that the crash was most likely caused by the fact that Utley did not fully comprehend the power of the machine he had bought.
Several social media users and car experts have been left gutted by the wreckage of the much loved $65,000 car. Others predict that given the cars power, crashes like this may be a common occurrence as many drivers may not be able to control the 2015 Hellcat Challenger.
