Ryan Gregory Pickren - A 21-year-old Georgia Tech student has been indicted for hacking the University of Georgia's official online calendar to post a message a night before the school's football team squared-off in a historic derby.
According to local reports, on Dec. 16, a Clarke County grand jury charged Ryan Gregory Pickren with computer trespassing for posting an inappropriate calendar entry two days before the heated Georgia Tech-Georgia game.
Ryan Gregory Pickren has been charged with a felony and he faces about 15 years in prison and a $50,000 fine if found guilty.
Ryan Gregory Pickren is a computer engineering major with a computer science minor. He hacked UGA's website and posted this - "Sat, November 29,2014/12:0 0/ Get Ass Kicked by GT," - as the official entry for the game.
Reports indicate that UGA authorities discovered the post and took it down an hour after it appeared on Thanksgiving Day.
According to Tom Jackson, UGA's vice president, an investigation into the message was launched shortly after the post was discovered by the UGS Police Department.
Reports indicate that UGA police presented the evidence of their investigation to an Athens-Clarke County grand jury.
Ryan Gregory Pickren's arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 22 by a Superior Court judge. But the next day he surrendered at the Clarke County Jail.
Reports indicate that after posting a $5,000 bond he was released.
According to Pickren's LinkedIn profile, he lives from Oldsmar, Fla and is staying in Atlanta currently.
Local sources say that the Bulldogs and Yellow Jacket's interstate rivalry began as far as 1893.
The news of Ryan Gregory Pickren's arrest and subsequent indictment has gone viral on the Internet. Many commentators have noted that his action was not properly thought out. In the game Pickren referred to in his message, Georgia Tech beat Georgia 30-24 in overtime.
