Mexican Police Force Detained - Mexican authorities have detained the entire police force of the southern state of Veracruz following the disappearance of a journalist last Friday.
Reports indicate that the Medellin de Bravo police department was ordered by state prosecutors to provide statements concerning the disappearance of Moises Sanchez Cerezo, a journalist and social activist.
Reports indicate that out of the 36 members of the local police force, three officers were still detained as of Monday.
According to local reports, Moises Sanchez Cerezo was last seen at his home where armed men seized him from. The armed men, who authorities are looking to identify, also seized his telephones, computer and camera when they kidnapped him.
Mexican authorities are investigating the possibility that Medellin's mayor Omar Cruz may have a hand in the abduction and disappearance of Moises Sanchez Cerezo.
However, the mayor has strongly denied the accusations, which were first started by Cerezo's brother Juan Carlos Sanchez. On Monday, Sanchez said Cruz had threatened his brother before a group of nine heavily armed men took him from his residence.
Mexico has been rocked by lawlessness as drug cartels continue to systematically destroy the state through extreme violence against law enforcement officials and journalists.
Veracruz is arguably one of the most dangerous Mexican towns for journalists. Over 9 journalists have been murdered because of the work in the town since 2011. At least 6 of these murderers are still being investigated.
According to reports, Moises Sanchez Cerezo may have easily offended powerful people with his articles on corruption and brutal deaths in the region. He also wrote about the people's complains and plight in a local weekly publication.
