Missouri Baby Born With Teeth - Doctors and nurses at a Missouri hospital were forced to smile in return after delivering a baby with pre-natal teeth.
Alyssa Bella Bailey, the Missouri baby born with teeth, was delivered on Sun Dec. 28 with two teeth in her lower jaw. According to her mother Jaklina Bailey, the presence of the teeth in the baby's mouth was not detected until she was handed to her father who pointed it out.
Jaklina says the news of the Missouri baby born with teeth spread like wildfire in the hospital."We had two other doctor that came in just to look, and nurses. They were kind of like 'what's going on? Can I just see? Let me see," she said.
Pre-natal teeth are extremely rare. Medical sources say they occur just one in every 2,000 to 3,000 births. According to Jaklina, this is only the second birth with a pre-natal teeth that her doctor, who has reportedly been in the practice for up to 25 years, has seen.
Experts say pre-natal teeth are so uncommon because even when kids get born with them, parents usually opt to have them removed. Pre-natal teeth are reportedly not well formed and run the risk of falling off and any time. Children can reportedly choke on them if they attempt to swallow. Mothers can also be hurt when they attempt to breast feed their babies.
Although the presence of pre-natal teeth is often associated with hormone deficiencies or growth defects, in rare cases - like that of the Missouri baby born with teeth - babies born with them can be perfectly healthy.
"Everything about her is healthy. She's a healthy, beautiful little girl. She just has two front teeth," Jaklina notes. Jaklina says she and her husband, who have opted not to have Alyssa's pre-natal teeth removed or filed down, have been warned by the doctors to keep an eye on it. She says the doctors expect it to grow with the rest of Alyssa's enamel gnashers.
As for breastfeeding, Jaklina says she is using a feeding bottle to 'breastfeed' the baby.
The story of the Missouri baby born with teeth has since gone viral online and stolen the headline in many publications.
I guess little Alyssa could not wait to smile at the world.
