Jack Del Rio Fired - Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio is scheduled to have a second interview with Oakland Raiders as a potential candidate for the vacant head coaching position at the team following Denver's 24-13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
According to reports, Jack Del Rio is set to meet with Raiders administrators on Tuesday following his first interview on Jan. 4. His second interview was confirmed on Monday by ESPN. Jack Del Rio is expected to meet Raiders officials including owner Mark Davis and general manager Reggie McKenzie in the Bay Area.
According to NFL rules, Jack Del Rio's second interview is effectual following Denver's elimination from the playoffs during the weekend.
Although Jack Del Rio has won three back-to-back AFC West titles during the past three seasons he has been with the Broncos, he has never hidden his desire to be head coach again if given the opportunity.
Jack Del Rio may be a good fit for the Raiders, whose entire team of assistant coaches will be free to join other teams on Tuesday when their contracts expire. Interim coach Tony Sparano may also be out of a job with Del Rio and other candidates in the team's sights.
The Oakland Raiders have been for a looking for a full-time head coach after firing Dennis Allen only four games into last season. Since the 2003 season, the Raiders have hired and fired eight coaches and this has not helped the teams continuous poor winning record.
Jack Del Rio is among several other candidates who have been interviewed for the Raiders head coaching job. These include former Browns coach, Pat Shurmur, former New York Jets and Cleveland coach Eric Mangini and Denver and Washington coach Mike Shanahan.
