Cara Labus - A 30-year-old junior high school teacher in Joliet has been charged with having sex with two of her former female students.
Cara Labus, who currently works at the Hufford Junior High School, has been charged with sexually abusing two of her former students from the Jerling High School in Orland Park. Labus reportedly worked as a maths teacher and basketball coach at Jerling. And after leaving the school in 2010, she evidently kept in touch with her former students.
According to Anita Alvarez, a Cook County State Attorney, Cara Labus had sexual encounters with the victims, who were aged 14 and 16, numerous times between 2008 and 2011.
The incident came to light when one of the victims filed a police report about the abuse in Dec. last year after opening up about the experience to a friend. Subsequently, the second victim got in touch with the first one and they shared their experiences. Although both victims would well be over 18 years old today, authorities have chosen to keep their identities private.
Cara Labus was arrested by the Orland Park Police on Jan. 21. She has been charged with four counts of aggravated sexual abuse and a bail for her was set at $150,000.
During a bail hearing for her on Friday, Judge Kennedy of the Cook County Criminal Court decreed that Labus is not to have contact with minors without supervision. Also, he ordered that she should be put under electronic surveillance while being confined to her Joliet home.
Authorities from the Joliet Public School District 86 have revealed that they are complying with the court over the issue. Labus has been indefinitely barred from the premises of the Hufford Junior High School, where she currently works.
The President of the Orland School District 135 school board Joe La Marga has revealed that the district is also complying with the court in the case. According to him, there had not been any complaints about Labus before this case.
