Rowan Atkinson Car - Car lovers have been brimming over with excitement since the news of the sale of Mr. Bean's famous McLaren F1 was announced.
Despite the fact that the vehicle has been involved in two crashes in 1999 and 2011, a Telegraph reporter who went on a ride with Rowan Atkinson in the car hints that it is in excellent condition.
"On one straight he allows the F1 to stretch its legs just a little. And in that instant the BMW-designed V12 engine, whose presence hitherto had been felt only as the distant whirrings of a Swiss watch, suddenly snarls and flings the McLaren up the road."
After the second crash of the McLaren F1 in August 2011 when Atkinson hit a tree and the car caught fire, he made British record after his insurers had to dish out about $1.4 million to cover the cost of repairs by McLaren
Despite its storied existence, the 627bhp and 240mph car has just covered 41,000 miles. According to Atkinson, who confesses that he bought the car in 1998 for its thoughtful design, there are no modern cars that are quite like this McLaren F1.
"Look at a modern supercar of comparable performance and it will be vast, heavy and offer little or no space for your luggage. By comparison the F1 is tiny, yet it will seat three, store enough for you all to go on holiday and still finds space for a proper, normally aspirated 6.1-litre V12 engine. And it weighs the same as a shopping car. Nothing has ever been designed before or since with such imagination and clarity of thought," Atkinson, an enthusiastic automobile aficionado and race driver, explains.
