Sabrina Rodriguez - The Former Fox40 news anchor, who faces three felony charges in relation to a shop lifting incident in a California store in 2013, was sentenced on Friday after she entered a 'no contest' plea to one count of theft.
Sabrina Rodriguez, who appeared in the Sacramento Superior Court with her lawyer Mark Reichel, was sentenced to a 30-day house arrest, during which she is going to be wearing an electronic monitoring device on her ankle. Also, she was tasked to do community service by speaking at least three times to women and girls about her experience in a public engagement. Rodriguez will also pay about $2,484 as restitution to the Coach store in Folsom, where she and her ex-fiance Nicholas Gray are accused of shoplifting in March 2013.
Prosecutors accused Rodriguez of conspiring to shoplift a Coach outlet in Folsom with Gray. She reportedly pointed out 10 wallets on display at the shop, which Gray stole afterwards.
Rodriguez continues to maintain her innocence. She told reporters after her sentencing that she accepted the plea deal to avoid a protracted trial and the possibility of landing in jail if the jury doesn't take her claims of innocence to be the truth.
During an interview with the Sacramento Bee a day before she was sentenced, Rodriguez said that she wants to move on with her life and put the trial behind her."If I can take anything positive from this really negative experience of going through everything, of leaving the station and having my name dragged through the mid, if I could help out other women, that would be really powerful," she said.
Rodriguez resigned from Fox40 in August last year, at around the same time that she split with her fiancé.
While Rodriguez is free, Gray faces possible prison time for several charges including drug possession and manufacture as well as burglary and conspiracy.
