Erica Kinsman - The woman who accused Florida State University quarterback Jameis Winston of rape has come forward for the first time to tell her story through a documentary produced by CNN Films and RADIUS.
On Friday, 20-year-old Erica Kinsman waived anonymity and spoke publicly for the first about her 2012 ordeal with the star athlete at the Sundance Film Festival.
As part of 'The Hunting Grounds', a documentary which delves into rape on campuses, Erica Kinsman recounts her ordeal, which she says has shattered her life. She also talks about feeling betrayed by FSU, her dream school and the Tallahassee, who handled the sexual assault.
Kinsman claims to have been drinking in a bar, then waking up to find Jameis Winston on top of her having sex with her in his apartment.
In the film, Erica Kinsman said she begged Jameis Winston to stop raping her, adding that one of the star quarterback's roommates, who was present, also pleaded with him to stop. According to her, Winston
stopped momentarily, he later dragged her to the bathroom where he pinned her head to the floor and continued assaulting her.
Erica Kinsman's story is featured in Kirby Dick's documentary, which analyzes rape in colleges, practically the roles athletic department and fraternities play in investigations into rape.
Erica Kinsman says the incident happened in December 2012, while she was a freshman. She fights tears as she recalls being at a Tallahassee Potbelly's, where a guy was following her around the bar the entire night. He did not stop creeping behind her until Winston put his hand around her neck and told the creep that she was his girlfriend.
Erica Kinsman says Winston, who she did not know at the time, then bought her a drink afterwards, she recalls being feeling dizzy and entering a cab to an apartment.
When she gained consciousness she saw the man who saved from the creep on top of her, penetrating her. She pleaded with him to stop, but he refused, even when his roommate who walked into the room did the same.
Erica Kinsman said afterwards, Winston gave her a ride to on his scooter and dropped her off near her dorm. She said that morning she went home and then to the hospital before filing a police report about the incident.
Erica Kinsman said she did not know her assailant's identity until she saw he was enrolled in one of her classes the following semester. She claims to have reported Jameis Winston's identity to the Tallahassee police, who only interviewed key witnesses in the case 10 months later.
"All these people were praising [Winston]...and calling me a slut, a whore." Kinsman said according to The Daily Beast. "I kind of just want to know, why me? It doesn't really make sense."
Meanwhile, the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston has said "rape is vicious crime." "The only thing as vicious as rape is falsely accusing someone of rape." Last month Florida State cleared Jameis Winston of violating the school's code of conduct.
