Cuffed Woman Steals Cop Car - A 27-year-old woman is on trial for stealing a police car and leading officers on a 10-mile high speed chase while her hands were cuffed behind her.
Center Township police reports indicate that Roxanne Rimer was arrested for shoplifting an earring from a Kohl's outlet in Pittsburgh on Jan. 14th.
On Monday, at her preliminary hearing, officers testified that after Rimer was detained by a loss prevention officer, she lied; giving a fake name and claimed to be a juvenile.
Reports indicate that while police officers were on their way to the store, Rimer ran away from the loss prevention officer and entered her grandfather's car.
However, police officers pulled the car over moments later and she was taken out and handcuffed. While she was about to be placed at the back seat of the police vehicle she kept on screaming, "Mommy! Mommy!'
Authorities reportedly left Rimer to search her grandfather's car. Rimer somehow managed to squeeze through an opening in a glass partition in the police car, which was not secured, before crawling into the driver's seat - the car was left running.
At this point, Rimer sped off, even crashed her grandfather's car as she tried to flee while still handcuffed. She then led officers on a high speed chase reaching up to 100 miles per hour.
Center Township police dash cam shows Rimer driving into the high way and maneuvering her way through traffic. She was somehow able to horn at other car's which blocked her way.
Rimer even stopped to ask another driver to help her drive and she continued running when he refused.
After leading cops on a nearly 10-mile chase, she only stopped after crashing into a hillside. With her hands still cuffed behind her, Rimer got of the car and continued her escape into a nearby woods when she was arrested.
"She was going to get out of that situation at whatever the cost," said a Frank Martocci, assistant district attorney in Beaver County.
Rimer faces charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, fleeing and eluding police and also robbery. Her attorney Steven Valsamidis contested the aggravated assault charge - citing that nobody was hurt and that Rimer did not intend to hurt anyone.
District Judge James DiBenedetto sided with the prosecutor, pointing out that Rimer put officers and her grandfather at risk because of her reckless actions.
