Andressa Urach - A Brazilian model and reality TV star famous for her artificial curves and surgically endowed beauty is speaking out against plastic surgery after a near death experience following a botched procedure.
27-year-old Andressa Urach, runner up of Brazil's Miss Bum Bum competition, became famous after undergoing several surgeries to enhance her body. She said prior to having plastic surgeries people mocked her and called 'Beanpole' because she had no curves.
The mother of one took anabolic steroids and had silicone implants, a nose job as well as gel and botox injections.
"There are plenty of ugly women, "she said."If you have money, you can be beautiful. This pretty face you see here, my dear, it cost some."
But Andressa Urach has since had a change of heart. In November, during a botched operation to enlarge her thighs she fell into septic shock and had to be placed on life support.
Doctors had given her about 200 times the legal amount of silicone gel Hydrogel. This caused the tissues in her leg to rot. She was placed in intensive care for a month fighting for her life as doctors contemplated amputating the rotten leg.
"The Hydrogel was not absorbed by my body and started to harm me," Andressa Urach said about her condition. "Now I've discovered that the PMMA is sticking to my muscles and causing the tissue to rot."
"I put that poison in my body, mostly because of having too much vanity," she said after being discharged from hospital.
Now, Andressa Urach is an advocate against plastic surgery. She appeared on Brazilian Rede TV to warn women about the dangers of cosmetic surgery.
Brazil has the highest rate of cosmetic surgeries in the world and Andressa Urach blames the pandemic on the prevailing perception of beauty.
According to reports, her wounded leg was still seeping with blood during the interview. Andressa Urach said "I hope that these wounds would at least serve as a warning to other women."
Andressa Urach also said she would never go back to back to a surgery room and would even leave her scars as sign of her experience.
"I'll leave them there, as they are. I fear surgery." Andressa Urach said before noting that she has thought about making a tattoo to hide them.
