Magic Hobbit Ring Suspension - A 9-year-old Texas boy has gained media attention after serving a one-day suspension from school for playing and having an over active imagination.
According to reports, on Thursday, Aiden Steward was suspended by Kermit Elementary School officials after he brought the 'one ring' from the 'Lord of the Rings' to school. While playing with a classmate Aiden reportedly said he could make his peer disappear by putting the highly sought after magic ring on his head.
"I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friends existence," Aiden's father Jason Steward said in a statement. "If he did, I'm sure he'd bring him right back.'
He added that Aiden wants to be a magician and had been practicing his tricks."He's wanted to be a magician since he was 6. He does tricks for all his friends at school."
"He religiously practices. All the kids know his as being the magic man. They think he has real powers," Steward said.
Aiden and his family had reportedly just watched "The Hobbit. The Battle of Five Armies" some days before the incident happened.
Mr. Steward thinks the big screen interpretation of J. R.R. Tolkien's fictional series may have sparked his son's imagination - leading him to take the ring to school.
"Kids act out movies that they see. When I watched Superman as a kid, I went outside and tried to fly," Steward said.
The news of the magic hobbit ring suspension has since gone viral. However, the school has refused to on exactly why the child was suspended.
Principal Roxanne Greer has refused to comment on the fourth-grader's predicament, citing school confidentiality polices.
Superintendent Bill Boyd released a statement saying "Kermit ISD strives to keep all students safe, and to focus above all on providing them with the highest quality of education. There are many good things going on in Kermit ISD that deserve far more attention than this matter and for that reason, the district will provide no further comment."
Reports indicate that the Stewards had moved to Kermit Independent School District just six months ago. Aiden had reportedly been having problems despite the fact he enjoys going to school. This school year he has already been suspended three times.
The first time school authorities suspended him for calling a classmate black and the other time because he had brought his favorite book, 'The Big Book of Knowledge' to school.
"He loves that book. They were studying the solar system and he took it to school. He though his teacher would be impressed," Steward said.
He added that the teacher was not impressed after discovering that the children's encyclopedia had a section on pregnancy that features an illustration of a pregnant woman.
