Malia Obama getting ready for college? Well, that seems to be the case as America's first daughter began touring various academes in New York City on Friday. As such famous people touring campuses, Malia and her mom, Michelle are once again making some buzz as they resume school-hunting.
Since last summer, Malia Obama and her mom, US First Lady Michelle Obama have been visiting several West Coast colleges including Stanford and University of California-Berkeley. And now, their sights are on different New York City campuses.
Malia Obama, the famous 16-year-old daughter of US President Barack Obama will be graduating next year. Currently, she is a junior at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, Glamour revealed.
As Malia Obama is about to carry on with college life, her mom Michelle, younger sister Sasha and a Secret Service personnel accompanied her for a school-hunting in the Big Apple. According to The Daily Mail, the group were seen at New York University, Columbia University and the Columbia-affiliated private women's institution, Barnard College.
While Malia Obama and her mom were busy touring various colleges in New York City, ABC News shared that across the nation, US President Obama had his daughter's college search on his mind. When the president delivered remarks at a community college in Indianapolis, he joked about his daughter's school-hunting.
As the Obamas went on tour different New York City campuses, social media exploded with messages, photos and some videos. Yahoo! News reported several students shared their excitement via tweets and blog posts.
"Sooo Malia Obama is considering going to my college. I'm going to be her best friend and there's nothing she can do about it," one student tweeted while another wrote, "Just saw Michelle and Malia Obama touring my college. No biggie. Not freaking out or anything..."
Aside from different campuses, Malia Obama was also given a private tour of NYU's Goddard residential halls. The Washington Post disclosed unaware students were told the elevators were shut down for 10 minutes. Malia is thought to be an aspiring filmmaker, with that in mind, she might be interested in NYU's film academy, the Tisch campus.
US First Daughter Malia Obama is no ordinary college-seeker. Her school choice appeared to be much crucial and tougher for any teenager. Pressures are on her as she is often the target of criticisms. But whatever decision she may have, surely her parents will be behind her and support her all the way.
