Holly Bobo Suspect - A key suspect in the disappearance and murder of Tennessee nursing student Holly Bobo has been found dead. He committed suicide.
Reports indicate that 30-year-old Shayne Austin, who once accepted to testify in the Holly Bobo case, was discovered out of state.
On Monday, Attorney Luke Evans confirmed the apparent suicide death of his client.
"It's unfortunate the government came in and made allegations without basis, Evans said. "People had to live with those allegations...under the clouds of those allegations."
According to reports, Austin was a 'person of interest' in the 2011 murder of 20-year-old Holly Bobo, who was kidnapped outside her Decatur County home. Prosecutors offered him immunity if he cooperated in a case against suspect Zach Adams, who along with Jason Autry, was indicted for the killing.
However, prosecutors canceled the deal, claiming that Austin lied about his involvement and therefore breached his part of the agreement.
According to reports, prosecutors had made references to filling charges against Austin for his involvement in the crime, but he denied any involvement in Bobo's disappeared and death.
"When we indict your client, I will give you a courtesy call informing you," Assistant District Attorney General Beth Boswell told Evans in an email.
Austin's attorney fought back, filling a civil suit against prosecutors after they squashed his cooperation agreement.
"Mr. Austin's position was that he was immune not just from being convicted of a crime but charged with a crime," Evans said in a statement.
Holly Bobo was missing for three years until two men stumbled on her body in the woods close to a land owned by Adams family.
Authorities have not yet released details of Austin's death, including the location, time and cause of death.
