Former "American Idol" alum, Kelly Clarkson is currently in the news after a news anchor gave an offensive comment about her weight. While these issues are unavoidable when you're a celebrity, Clarkson bravely defended herself.
Since giving birth to her daughter in June 2014, Kelly Clarkson has been the target of unending criticisms especially when it comes to her weight, Entertainment Weekly reported. In fact, during an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Friday, the 32-year-old "Breakaway" singer finally broke her silence over the issue.
As Kelly Clarkson took the chance to fire back at her unwarranted body shamers, Fox News anchor Chris Wallace became her latest critic. During a radio interview on "The Mike Gallagher Show," host Mike Gallagher asked Wallace if the journalist knew Clarkson.
"Have you seen Kelly Clarkson? You know the singer, Kelly Clarkson? Holy cow, did she blow up," Gallagher asked, the Daily Mail cited. In which Wallace responded, "Really? Do we want to talk about some of your friends? Kelly Clarkson's got a lovely voice."
"She could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while," the 67-year-old TV host additionally remarked.
Following Wallace's offensive "fat shaming" comment, fellow Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren took to her blog to chastise the veteran news anchor.
"This guy snickering about her weight is obnoxious. He should apologize," Susteren wrote on her blog Gretawire.
Earlier this year, Kelly Clarkson also faced the undue criticisms of British media personality Katie Hopkins when the latter commented on Twitter after Clarkson's "The Graham Norton Show" guesting.
"Jesus, what happened to Kelly Clarkson? Did she eat all her backing singers? Happily I have a wide-screen," Hopkins said, as quoted by the New York Daily News.
Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson remained unfazed as she fired back at her detractors during her appearance on the "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Friday.
"I think what hurts my feelings for people is when I'll have a meet and greet after the show and a girl who's, like, bigger than me will be in the meet and greet and be like, 'Oh, God!'" Clarkson said, E! News noted. "And they'll say, 'If they think you're big I must be so fat to them.'"
"It's like, you just are who you are. We are who we are whatever size," she continued. "It doesn't mean that we're gonna be that forever."
Kelly Clarkson also revealed that since her "American Idol" days, she has constantly faced the nasty and offensive comments about her body weight.
Meanwhile, since Chris Wallace's comments started a social media backlash, USA Today revealed that the Fox News Sunday's anchor has officially issued an apology. While Mike Gallagher wrote an apology online.
"I sincerely apologize to Kelly Clarkson for my offensive comment," Wallace stated. "I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her."
"Tubby Mike is the last person in the world who should bring up anyone's weight," Gallagher wrote. "I couldn't possibly feel any worse than I do for making an observation that led to the conclusion that I 'fat-shamed' this talented and classy entertainer. It was a really stupid thing for me to do."
