Pop Singer Katy Perry has taken home trophies at the Billboard Music Awards, People's Choice Awards and MuchMusic Awards this year and despite her very public divorce proceedings with British Comedians Russell Brand, she still displays a smile and bubbly personality. However, in her new music video, "Wide Awake," Perry sends a "dose of reality" to listeners.
Katy Perry's career has grown in success. She is the only artist to spend over 52 consecutive weeks in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, and has since heightened this to 69 weeks.
"Wide Awake" is Perry's second single from her "Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection." The video shows Perry literally going through a looking glass and meets her former self. She comes face to face with a young girl who represents her former innocence. This is made clear when we see the same little girl ride away on a bike with a vanity plate that reads "KATHERYN" which is the pop icon's actual name. "This song in particular is a dose of reality," Perry told Sway Calloway in a video posted to MTV's site Monday. "It's kind of like coming down from a high. You've been on cloud nine for so long, and it can't always be so sweet and sometimes you need to realize that, and you have to pick yourself up and move forward and face the facts of life and know that this is just a lesson you learn and you're stronger because of it."
Perry's upcoming documentary concert film: "Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D" will be released July 5, 2012.
