NBA 2K fans have been waiting for this announcement and the moment has finally arrived. The cover of the upcoming NBA 2K 2013 cover was unveiled and shockingly conveyed not one, not two, but three players.
Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers, Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant will share the spotlight on the cover of 2K13. All players are 23 years of age and were all rookies of the year; Durant in 2008, Rose in 2009, and Griffin in 2011. Rose also was the 2011 MVP and is a three-time all-star.
"Being crowned as one of the 'NBA 2K13' cover athletes is a huge honor and something I always dreamt about," Durant said in a statement. "It's definitely humbling to grace the cover after the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird."
"There's so much young talent around the NBA, so it's very exciting to be chosen for NBA 2K's 'New Dynasty' alongside Kevin and Derrick," Griffin said in a statement. "The NBA 2K series has always been my first choice when I want to get a game in."
"It's a dream come true to be one of the cover athletes for 'NBA 2K13,'" Rose said in a statement. "I've worked closely with 2K Sports since 'NBA 2K10,' and I'm honored to follow in the footsteps of Michael Jordan as the latest Chicago Bull to be featured on the cover."
The NBA 2K franchise has developed to a point of excellence. 2K11 and 2K12,specifically, were very strong installments in terms of presentation and gameplay, and both were hailed as "the best" by IGN in each video review, with a rating of 9.5 out of 10.
Players can still expect to obtain more surprises from 2K Sports this year.
"We have one of the biggest announcements ever," Jason Argent, the 2K Sports vice president of marketing said on Kotaku, "if not the biggest ever in the history of the 2K Sports franchise ever coming in a couple of weeks. I think you'll be surprised. Pleasantly."
Fans that pre-order NBA 2K13 for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 will receive a new downloadable NBA All-Star content package presented by Sprite.
NBA 2K13 is scheduled for release on October 2, 2012.
