According to IGN, the aforementioned roles propose deals for sequels in the future. This led to speculations that "Gambit" will succeed "Wolverine" as Fox's pioneering "X-Men" franchise standalone.
With the "X-Men" trilogy coming to an end, Fox is seriously investing in other superhero franchises. As per Cinema Blend, "Gambit" has a budget above $150 million.
"Gambit" was reported to have started pre-production while principal photography is set for October 13 up to February 12, 2016.
Although the storyline of film was not yet disclosed, Channing Tatum has confirmed recently that it would be an origin story and teased that there are several ways to make it. Details were muddy if it will be in connection with the "X-Men" trilogies, but the actor stated that "Gambit" envisions to change the course of those common superhero flicks.
Meanwhile, Taylor Kitsch, who played Gambit in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," revealed that he was never considered for the standalone flick.
He told The Daily Beast: "Um...no, I didn't have a go. Ever since we finished the movie, it's never really been an option."
He also recognized Tatum's portrayal of the role, saying: "But no, I wish [Channing] nothing but the best. It was a fun character to play, and I learned a lot working with Hugh [Jackman] and had an amazing time in Australia. I'm sure they're doing their own thing with it, and I'm sure Channing will be great."
"Gambit" will hit theaters Oct. 7, 2016.
