"Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation" directed by Christopher McQuarrie was predicted to surpass its predecessor in terms of its debut.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the "Mission:Impossible" series has earned above $2 billion worldwide since the original began in 1996. The earliest "Mission:Impossible" came out at the top with $45.4 million in domestic charts or about $83.5 million modified for inflation. "Mission Impossible- Rogue Nation" was eyed by Paramount to make its debut near $40 million, but others are predicting as well that Tom Cruise's latest starrer will possibly reach the mid-50s range.
And it's not just about debut opening income that "Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation" hoped to surpass in success, director Christopher McQuarrie also hopes to surpass the level of action and excitement that the previous "Mission Impossible" have offered to the public.
McQuarrie said, "It's such a Murderers' Row of great directors. It's John Woo and Brian De Palma, J.J. Abrams and Brad Bird."
"You're thinking 'I have to top the last movie. I want to raise the bar a little bit. I want to make a film that belongs in the group with those other four films.'"
Although each "Mission Impossible" movie had different directors, the one constant factor in all those installments is none other than multi-talented actor Tom Cruise, who is also the franchise's producer.
Mc Quarrie commented, "He's the hardest working man in show business - and the most fun," as per CBC News.
Speaking of "Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation" lead star Tom Cruise, although known for not shying away from danger especially in doing his own stunts -Tom Cruise has previously climbed the tallest building in the world (Burj Khalifa in Dubai) likewise mounted across a dangerous cliff face - his airplane stunt in "Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation made the Hollywood star and adrenaline junkie look a double glance.
The idea first started as a joke from director McQuarrie, but Cruise liked the idea for his secret agent role Ethan Hunt.
The actor said, "'He said: 'Do you want to hang off an airplane?' And I was like 'Yeah okay, that sounds like fun. Let's try that out.'"
"Months later, there I am hammering down the runway and I was thinking 'Maybe this wasn't such a good idea,'" Cruise explained to CBC News at the "Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation" Toronto premiere.
Ultimately, the 53-year-old actor let go of the hesitation and proved to everyone that he's still got what it takes to make an action scene.
Tom Cruise was subjected to speed and wind simulations to help him get ready for the scene which was filmed to catch the required angles eight times. The scene had him clinging to the portal of an Airbus A400 while it was rapidly running down the runway.
All the while, Tom Cruise had on rare contact lenses so that it would be possible for him to keep his eyes open while the scene was being filmed 5,000 ft. in the air.
Tom Cruise detailed, "Of course, there was the cold, and I couldn't wear long underwear because there was the suit. And then there were the jet fumes from the exhaust."
But, "Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation" was worth every sacrifice.
He said, "We make our films for the audiences. The response has been amazing."
Tom Cruise also shared the credits for the success of "Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation" with fellow members of the cast and crew. Familiar faces such as Jeremy Renner, Ving Rames and Simon Pegg are back to reprise their respective roles.
"It takes a village making these movies and the whole gang really put their heart and soul into it," said Cruise.
"I think they are such powerful actors. All of us together had a great time."
Meanwhile, The Irish Times' Donald Clarke reviewed "Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation" and has said that the movie was a "boring James Bond rip off" and that there's really nothing much to Ethan Hunt except that it's played by Tom Cruise.
Either way, you be the judge when "Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation" hits the screen this weekend.
