OnePlus 3 Coming In December? Company Exec Confirms New Smartphone Arriving This Year

Although the OnePlus 2 hasn't been officially released yet, Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, confirmed that the company is already working on a follow-up to the current flagship smartphone.

According to the executive, this new device might come out in December.

This then led various sources to speculate on the release of the OnePlus 3 or possibly a new iteration of the company's current brand-carrier device.

The executive, however, did not give out the specific details of the company's upcoming handset during his interview with USA Today. Instead, he only provided a projected period of its release and his first impressions of the device upon seeing the prototype model.

Pei also teased that the new handset might sport better features than that of the OnePlus 2.

"There's going to be a second phone this year, before the end of the year," he told the news site. "Hopefully for Christmas."

"It may or may not be (higher spec'd than the OnePlus 2)," Pei added. "When I saw the prototype for that phone I was like 'holy s— that's going to be my daily driver' but then when the OnePlus 2 production version came out it's also super nice, so it's really hard to decided now what to use."

Although Pei didn't go into detail regarding the future gadget, he wasn't the only member of the OnePlus family that confirmed its existence.

During a recent Reddit Ask-Me-Anything session held by the company with users, a representative from OnePlus clarified that the upcoming smartphone will not be marketed as the OnePlus 3 or a variant of the 2, according to 9to5Google.

Also, as another proof that this year's future smartphone will not be the 3, Pei took to Twitter to clarify that the successor of the OnePlus 2 will arrive in 2016.

As for the company's current flagship device, OnePlus recent held a special fan event in New York City to promote it, PC Mag reported. Those who participated in the event were given priority access in the OnePlus 2's invite system, which has now reached over 1.6 million registrants.

This means they'll be one of the first owners of the device once it arrives on Aug. 11 for $329.
