The cause of death of rapper Sean Price remains to be a mystery as of late. The only known thing about his demise for the time being is the fact that his wife said he passed away in his sleep. Amid the mystery of his death, many fans and co-artists are expressing their condolences to the surviving family of the Brooklyn lyricist.
The 43-year-old hip hop artists reportedly died Saturday morning and DJ Premier was the first to announce the unfortunate news via Instagram, Rolling Stone has learned.
"R.I.P. Ruck... Love and Respect to The Duck Down Family!!! #SeanPrice," DJ Premier wrote, alongside a snap of the late artist.
The news was quickly confirmed by Sean Price's wife on Facebook with a statement issued by the late artist's rep.
The statement read: "It is with beyond a heavy heart that Duck Down Music is sadly confirming that Sean Price passed away early this morning in his Brooklyn apartment, Saturday, August 8th, 2015. The cause of death is currently unknown, but it was reported that he died in his sleep. He's survived by his wife, and his three children."
The statement then went on to say: "Sean's family and friends are asking for time to grieve and process the news. Further details will be issued when more information is available."
Sean Price is popularly known as one half of Heltah Skeltah. He is also a member of other hip-hop groups Boot Camp Clik and Random Axe.
According to Yahoo! Music, Sean Price was born in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, where he spent most of his youth as a street hustler. Before launching a career in the hip-hop music scene, he sold drugs out of town.
In 1995, he debuted as Ruckus with his Heltah Skeltah partner Rock. He then moved on to join the other two aforesaid groups. When he finally decided to go solo as an artist, he adopted his birth name Sean Price.
Following Sean Price's death, many took to social media to express their sympathy and condolences to the family the artist left behind, as per E! News.
Macklemore wrote: "RIP to Sean P.... So sad man. He was a huge inspiration to me. Grew up on BCC. Prayers to his family, friends and Duck Down."
Meanwhile, Pete Davidson, an "SNL" star, wrote: "RIP to the legend Sean Price. Gone way too soon."
