"Fast and Furious" fans are already excited for the upcoming eighth installment of the growing franchise. This week, more details and information about the Vin Diesel starrer surfaced and it appears that fans will surely enjoy when their favorite characters return to the fast lane once again.
The "Fast and Furious" franchise has long established itself at the box office. The seventh installment, "Fast and Furious 7," even made a good impression by passing the $1 billion mark. Thus, it is not surprising to know that the franchise is coming back for another installment as confirmed by lead star Vin Diesel.
Diesel is also the best source for teasers and updates regarding the development of the film. On Tuesday, the hunky actor teased fans about the possible return of Mr. Nobody, played by Kurt Russell, in the film series.
On Instagram, Paul Walker's co-actor shared a screenshot of his character and Mr. Nobody from "Fast and Furious 7." He didn't put any caption, so Ecumenical News suggested that he could be hinting the return of Russell's character.
Early this year, Russell said that his character didn't have a chance to make a comeback in the popular franchise. When he made an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," he said, "The character has purposely been treated in a certain way so that he can or can't [return]."
However, he also expressed his desire to come back, saying: "I just wanted to be able to work with them making the best possible character to either be sad he doesn't move on or say, 'Yeah, I want this character to move on -- we need this character to move on.'"
Meanwhile, producer Neal Moritz has already confirmed that "Fast and Furious 8" will start a new saga. The upcoming film is set to mark the beginning of a new trilogy that aside from focusing on car racing will also primarily cover the theme of espionage, as per Movie News Guide. Perhaps this is to ensure that the characters will also grow following the death of Paul Walker, who played lead character Brian O'Connor.
With the changes that are bound to happen in the upcoming installment, many are questioning if "Furious 8" will live up to the hype surrounding it after the very successful seventh installment.
Movie Pilot posted a big question on its feature article about the things that will surely be missed after Paul Walker's demise: "After the death of Paul Walker, will the 'Fast & Furious' franchise finally detach itself completely from its street racing roots?" Of course the answer is still uncertain for now. Fans could only hope for the best when it comes to their favorite franchise.
"Fast and Furious 8" is set to premiere on its release date on April 14, 2017.
