Chromebooks are described by Laptop Mag blog as laptops with a different breed. They run on Google Chrome's operating system instead of Windows or Mac.
They were categorized by tech critics into two types. According to The Verge, they could either be extremely cheap with a lot of sacrifices on features and design or exquisitely made but far too expensive.
Apparently, Dell has given the consumers a new option. Introduced on Thursday, Dell's new Chromebook 13 reportedly is neither one of the two types, rather, it's a little bit of both.
For those who are curious, or even for those who are already thinking of buying, here are the five must-know things about Dell's newest chromebook offer.
Let's start with the physical appearance.
Dell incorporated the glass trackpad from its XPS line of notebooks. The palm rest is made of magnesium allow, the back panel has carbon fiber weave and the bottom part is aluminum.
It could weigh about 3.2 to 3.5 lbs.
Let's take a closer look at the processor.
The standard model that Dell announced Thursday has 2GB RAM, 16GB Storage and a 1.5GHz Intel Celeron Processor. Gizmodo learned that there's also Core i3 and Core i5 options.
It has also has a 4GB and an 8GB option for the RAM and a storage 32 GB if 16GB is not enough for the user.
How good is the display?
This chromebook is 13-inch with 1080p matte IPS LCD display. It may not really mean a big deal compared to laptops, but for chromebooks, it's pretty amazing.
Consumers can also choose between an anti-glare screen or a touch screen with Gorilla Glass.
Gizmodo said that it's already a major upgrade to the 1366x768 TN panel of Chromebook 11, which had some brightness issues and "washed out" colors.
What about the ports?
Dell's Chromebook 13 has one USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, an HDMI port and a MicroSD port. It also has an AC port so you can charge it when the battery runs out, which, by the way, has been reported to have a 12-hour lifespan.
How about its connectivity?
It's a bit limited at 802.11ac WiFi and a Bluetooth of 4.0, as PC World expected.
Dell's new Chromebook 13 will be released on Sept .17, starting at $399. It can go up to $899 but that depends on how the customer wants the specs to be configured.
