Columbus Short, who played the role of Harrison Wright in "Scandal," was arrested by bounty hunters and sheriffs during his album release, Tuesday. He was about to do a sound check in a club at Universal Studios City Walk in Los Angeles when he was picked up.
The 32-year-old actor was caught off guard. He claimed that the incident freaked him out, and he got scared for his life, Bet reported.
Initial reports suggested that a bench warrant was issued because Short failed to make an appearance in one of his assault cases. However, TMZ was told by Short's rep that the arrest was not due to an outstanding warrant; instead, it was a citizen's arrest which resulted from an issue between him and his bail bondsman.
"The bounty hunters were there because they'll get a cut of his $500,000 bail," according to TMZ. "We're told the bounty hunters swooped in because they believed Short was about to flee the country."
This was reportedly Short's third arrest. He was arrested in February 2014 for the alleged domestic violence against his wife, Tanee McCall, who claimed that Short threatened his and her life with a knife, as per the report of PerezHilton.
The following month, he got arrested for allegedly assaulting a man in Los Angeles, during a bar room brawl.
In April, he left ABC's popular series due to personal reasons. Short's character was a member of the crisis management team at Olivia Pope & Associates firm.
Wright was a senior associate of Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington. For the past three seasons, Wright was one of the main characters in the show.
"Scandal" is now in its fifth season and will return to ABC on Sept. 24 at 9|8c.
It will be a night of premieres for Shonda Rhimes' series as "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will air an hour before "Scandal," while "How to Get Away with Murder" season 2 will air an hour after.
