Despite vague health updates and media blackout, Michael Schumacher's family finally spoke about the never-ending well-wishes and sympathy they received from the former Formula One champion's fans, followers, friends and colleagues.
Ever since Michael Schumacher's skiing accident in the French Alps back in December 2013, updates about his health condition has been scarce. But fans never lose hope and his official website was re-launched to give way to their messages to the seven-time world champion as he continues to fight for his recovery in their Swiss mansion.
"We still receive wishes for Michael to get well soon every day, and still we are stunned by the sheer amount of sympathies," Michael Schumacher's family wrote on his official website. "We can only always thank you for facing this fight together with him and us. We remain confident and hope the best for Michael. Your strength is helping us to keep supporting him."
While there have been only a few updates about Michael Schumacher's health, his fans remained hopeful about his condition. In fact, they continued to express their support on social media with the hashtag #KeepFightingMichael and has never failed to remember the F1 superstar.
As of late, Schumacher is recuperating in a medical facility that was custom-built for him in his Lake Geneva mansion, where he received care from a team of 15 medical specialists 24/7. According to Cross Map, the total cost for his rehabilitation is $154,000 (£100,000) per week and the medical bills is already more than $15 million. And though this might be quite hard for his family, it won't have much an effect to Schumacher's $800 million net worth.
There have not been any concrete bulletins regarding Michael Schumacher's current health condition since the anniversary of the skiing accident last December, The Telegraph noted. However, a new report claimed that the recovery of the former Mercedes and Ferrari driver is still very slow. As previously reported, Schumacher's weight is less than 45 kilograms. He is also still unable to talk or walk on his own and doesn't respond well to any stimulus from the outside.
In other news, the Schumacher family has applied to host the 2016 world championships in reining, a western-style riding competition. Agence France-Presse (via The National) reported the Schumachers are well-equipped to host the world championships next August on their custom-built ranch at the family home in Givrins, Switzerland. Since 2014, they have hosted the junior European championships.
Michael Schumacher's wife, Corinna, was the 2010 European reining champion while their 18-year-old daughter Gina is the current junior European champion. During the 2015 world championships in Aachen, Gina took part in an exhibition event. A decision will be made by the World Equestrian Federation (FEI) in October.
Meanwhile, any news regarding Michael Schumacher exists in the realm of speculation and gossip, while the wait for the good news continues.
