Not to be overshadowed by Microsoft’s Surface Book, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 was unveiled to the delight of its loyal target market and amid the overhyped fanfare at the Redmond, Washington-headquartered tech company’s big Tuesday event.
Just like its tablet-laptop hybrid predecessor the Surface Pro 3, Microsoft's all-new Surface Pro 4 is a powerhouse with much to brag in terms of hardware, features and specs as much as its Windows 10 software.
The device comes with a 12.3-inch 2,160 x 1,440 screen which is slightly larger than that of the Surface Pro 3. While many were worried that the device would end up bigger, Microsoft strategically packed the larger display in a smaller footprint, as per Yahoo! Tech.
The detachable Type Cover keyboard has also been improved by the company. The backlit keyboard now has a more responsive touchpad. Plus, it also has a fingerprint reader, which, unfortunately, is only available in the U.S. models. Additionally, the key spacing has been widened to improve the functionality of the Type Cover.
Microsoft also promises a more receptive device with the Surface Pro 4. All thanks to PixelSense technology, the touchscreen response has significantly improved. Since the tablet-laptop hybrid is designed for note-taking, it comes with an upgraded Surface Pen which works well with the touchscreen display not only when writing, but also when erasing, all thanks to its eraser top. Moreover, the company claims the Surface Pen's battery can last for one year.
The Surface Pro 4 reportedly comes with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD. The hybrid also brags powerful Skylake processors, noted Forbes.
Microsoft even promises that the new iteration in its Surface Pro line is "twice as powerful" than a MacBook Air, without really specifying which configuration of the Surface Pro 4 since it comes in three models with different processors: the Intel Core M3, i5 and i7.
The Surface Pro 4 has a decent 8-megapixel back camera, which is an upgrade compared to the 5-megapixel the 12-inch Surface Pro 3 has. For its front camera, Microsoft opted to keep its 5-megapixel shooter that's also present in its predecessor.
According to The Verge, the starting price of the Surface Pro 4 is $899 when it hits stores starting Oct. 26.
