'Back To The Future' Day: How Michael J. Fox's Film Predicted Pepsi Perfect, Nike Self-Lacing Shoes & Hoverboards

Remember 1989's "Back to the Future Part II" wherein Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, travelled and arrived in 2015? That day is today, Oct. 21; hence, the celebration of "Back to the Future" day.

"Back to the Future Part II" had envisioned that this year we would have new technologies and products. The 1989 film featured a couple of products, which are now available for purchase, and some of it includes Pepsi Perfect and Hoverboards.

In the movie clip below you will see McFly riding a pink hoverboard that he borrowed from the little girl. You will also see those three punks running after him riding the flying skateboards.

There were some hoverboards created that reportedly don't count for the very reason that they don't "hover" — they've got wheels on the ground. One company, though, made a real-life Hoverboard for a whooping price of $10,000.

Starup Arx Pax made Hendo Hover, and it was tested by no other than Tony Hawk himself.

Lexus also made its very own version called the Lexus slide.

These two boards were awesome, but they only glide over conductor surfaces, according to Time. That said, Ryan Craven created another version, called Mr Hoverboard, which runs on most hard surfaces.

On the same "Back to the Future Part II" video, you will see McFly sporting Nike's shoes. Bob Gale, producer and writer of the film script, explained that, him wearing it, happened as a complete coincidence.

Fox replaced Eric Stoltz, who was originally cast for the role and when he arrived at the set, he was wearing a Nike high-tops and the production didn't have any shoes for him.

Gale said their executive producer Frank Marshall called Nike, telling them that Fox will wear these shoes. The footwear company said it wasn't a problem, offered to make a dozen pairs more, and that began their relationship with them, The Wall Street Journal learned.

"When we did part II, we said 'What would the future Nike shoe look like?' Our people and their people came up with the self-tying shoe," Gale added.

In a video report uploaded by The Know on YouTube, it stated that Nike promised to deliver this futuristic self-lacing shoes sometime this year. The report further stated that a patent was already acquired by Nike for the technology.

In 2011, Nike reportedly auctioned 1,500 replica pairs of "Back to the Future II" on Ebay. They raised $7.7 million dollars, which was donated to Michael J. Fox's Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Going back in the original film, McFly visited 1955, and tried to order "Pepsi Free." In its sequel, Fox's character discovered that its latest name was "Pepsi Perfect."

To honor the 30th anniversary of the famous trilogy, PepsiCo is launching 6,500 units of limited edition of Pepsi Perfect, UPI reported. It cost $50, but ordering it online will only cost you reportedly around $20.15.
