Det. Ethan Slaughter (Adam Baldwin), who was last seen on a fourth season episode, will return to solve another crime with Rick Castle. The last time these two men are together, Castle's life was put in danger and had almost died. Thus, their partnership in the upcoming episode will definitely be interesting because Castle will once again be in the same predicament as both try to solve a recent robbery case, CarterMatt noted.

"Castle" showrunners are also preparing for the arrival of Kristoffer Polaha, who's reportedly starring in several episodes over the upcoming November period. Latin Post revealed that Polaha will play the role of a public defender who comes to present "some unexpected complexity" for the gang.
"He's a little bit more than what he seems," co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter said. "The design of his character is that he's immediately at odds with the folks at the 12th, while representing a murderer. He's trying to do his job while the 12th is trying to do theirs."
