Henry Cavill, the #SupermanVBatman star recently adopted a baby fruit bat that's being cared for at the Durrell Wildlife Park. This mammal is on the verge of extinction so the park is doing its part to help conserve the species so they can remain in this planet.
Henry Cavill is a known animal lover and he even has a foundation called Cavill Conservation. And in 2014, he teamed up with Durrell Wildlife Park to help save animals that are in high risk of going extinct and with his pure intention, he was also named as Durell's ambassador in that year.
Recently, he went to visit the park and while there, he came across a rare breed of bats — the Comoro flying fox. The species which is only found in Moheli Islands and Anjouan in the western Indian Ocean, was so adorable that it caught the actor's attention.
Apparently, he was charmed by one particular bat and he decided to adopt it. It was revealed that the one he likes is called "Ben." Interestingly, he is also co-starring with Ben Affleck in their latest Superman-meets-Batman movie.
"You heard it here first, I have officially adopted Ben ... the Bat!" the 32-year-old actor said in the clip uploaded on YouTube by the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
In the video, Cavill was also shown feeding the winged fox and he looks so comfortable around them too. Aside from Ben, his mother Claudia was also featured in the clip.
The #SupermanVBatman actor expressed his adoration and thoughts on being close with endangered bats saying, "People don't realize what it's like to be close to them. They're absolutely beautiful, it's much like a puppy at home."
The Comoro flying fox, which is also known as the Livingstone's fruit bat, can grow to up to 12 inches in length; its wingspan can spread up to 1.4 meters. They will soon disappear if action is not be taken to preserve them, and this is why the British actor's participation in its conservation efforts means so much.
"Ben is a Livingstone's fruit bat-the most endangered mammal here at Durrell Wildlife Park. The species faces serious challenges in the wild. By adopting Ben you're not only helping to take care of him, you're also ensuring we can continue our work to protect this critically endangered species in the wild," wrote the Durell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
Meanwhile, the "Man of Steel" is returning for an expected blockbuster movie which is set to premiere on March 25, 2016. The much-anticipated "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" is an epic film where the two heroes are not on friendly terms. As mentioned on Deadline, the movie's official trailer is debuting on Dec. 2 on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
