The "Elite Dangerous: Horizons" expansion is here and if you loved the main game, then there's no reason for you to dislike its second coming.
Toms Hardware reported that the expansion comes exactly one year after the base game launched for the PC. And over the course of 1 year, a lot of features have been added like community goals, Powerplay factions, wing group and a competitive CQC or Close Quarters Combat.
With the "Horizons" expansion pack, the first of many features is already available, with more to come in the next few months, such as crafting, character customization, looting, multi-crew ships and ship-launched fighters.
Shacknews reported that players will also find a new update for the base game called "Elite Dangerous 1.5 - Ships," which introduces new spacecraft missions and SteamVR support for PC users and you better grab it now because it's available for the PC, Mac and Xbox One today.
Those playing the basic "Elite: Dangerous" version called ships, the expansion pack also added new vessels. With 25 ships initially available, it has now been upped to 30 that came with the pack, including the massive Imperial Cutter.
In a related note, Gotta Be Mobile reported that the game's developer, Frontier, does not think that the latest expansion pack as a massive one, but rather a season of new updates that will come over time.
Previously, players could explore mines and the galaxy for resources, but with the pack comes a feature called Planetary Landings wherein players can explore physical worlds with their own physics and geography. There should be a lot of planets to visit with the Planetary Landings update, as the game spans the entire galaxy.
In addition, this week's release seems to be specifically for PC gamers as it's available through Steam and Frontier's website yesterday.
The game's developer confirmed that it will have more to say about "Elite Dangerous: Horizons" in the near future regarding the Xbox One and "other formats" versions.
But it does not stop there, as a feature that let owners' customization options for looting and crafting is also coming. Moreover, the ability to have more than just a single crew on start ships, a creation tool for each player's character and carrier ships that can launch small fighters in combat situations are also about to arrive.
If you own the base game, the "Ships" update is free, but you have to buy the "Horizons" expansion pack for $59.99. Moreover, the expansion pack runs only on a 64-bit client so you need to upgrade your rig if you want to play it.
