In an effort to get the market to subscribe to their products, AT&T is now offering unlimited data if you subscribe to the company's DirecTV wireless and television service.
The company recently announced the "AT&T Unlimited Plan". An unlimited data service for the subscriber's home with AT&T wireless phone service and DirecTV or U-Verse TV.
The company hopes to encourage consumers to purchase packages with television consumption on tablets and mobile phones. The plan allows the users to "take" their TV with them anywhere with out the hassle of worrying if they have exceeded their data or Wi-Fi limit.
Ralph de la Vega, AT&T Mobile & Business Solutions, CEO, expressed that this promotion enables customers to have the best of both worlds (wireless and TV) in one bundle:
We want customers to have both products. It's a huge cross-sell opportunity.
This is the company's first announcement regarding a promotion on integrated video and mobility offers. The company is planning to release a series of promotions that not only includes integrated video and mobile plans but also includes new video entertainment options within the year.
AT&T, ever since its completed acquisition of satellite provider DirecTV, operates branded bundled channels. He also expressed that this offer does not slow down speeds like their competitors. Hinting that T-Mobile has data usage caps.
Unlimited plans have been almost rendered obsolete in recent years as provider companies have moved to capping. AT&T made a sudden U-turn promo only for a limited time but de la Vega stresses that home subscribers who get the promo will keep the unlimited data deal that also applies to phone use.
What else can we expect from this move from AT&T? DirecTV has been trying to acquire wireless rights to TV programming so they can live stream channels straight to your homes or phones.
De la Vega says that this is just the beginning and that this is the future of media, he detailed in an interview.
