Starwood Hotels and Resorts is set to open a new "luxury lifestyle" hotel in the center of the Madrid's thriving restaurant and entertainment district. They are set to open by 2018. The hotel, W Madrid, will be located on Plaza de Canalejas.
"The opening of the second W Hotel in Spain demonstrates the huge demand for this innovative lifestyle brand in such an important travel market," said Michael Wale, president, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa and Middle East. "When W Madrid opens its doors in 2018, Spain will become the only country in Europe to boast two W Hotels."
W Madrid will have 141 guestrooms, which includes a total of 20 suites and one "Extreme Wow Suite." Such a room is considered to be W Madrid's interpretation and version of the traditional Presidential Suite. The hotel will also feature a rooftop bar, an outdoor pool deck, a workout facility, two meeting rooms, and a signature restaurant.
It is said that the hotel will be in an imposing 19th century building that previously served as a hotel. The property is said to be restored with its historical elements with a touch of bold, vibrant design that the W brand is known for." According to the company, "the property conversion involves an international multi-disciplinary team coordinated by Hong Kong based Hospitality Solutions."
"We believe that the W brand is the perfect fit for this historic property and look forward to seeing W Madrid emerge as one of Spain's most sought after and admired hotels," said Harry Mohinani, CEO of Merryland Inversiones which owns the hotel.
The W Madrid is owned by Merryland Inversiones S.L.U. It will complement the beachfront W Barcelona which opened in 2009.
