Don’t Answer These Questions If The Job Interviewers Ask Them

Are you going into a job interview? If you go there thinking that the interviewer is above you, you might be induced to answer questions that are not appropriate for him to ask.

Be confident and approach him on an equal level and be prepared for improper questions he may throw at you. To help you with that, here are some inappropriate interviews questions, and how you can answer or deflect them.

1. How old are you now?

It will be very rude for a job interviewer to ask this question, unless the job applicant appears very young for the age requirement of the job. If you are already of legal age, and you look like it, and you are not really that old for the job, there is no reason for him to ask that question. Should he insist on an answer, ask him: "Is age really a qualification for this job?

2. What is your religion?

The interviewer can ask if you are able to work during normal office hours, but he can't ask you if your religion forbids you from working for certain days of the week.

He can't ask about your religious affiliation, the holidays that you are observing and other peculiar practices that you may or may not have. If the country you are living on enforces freedom of religion, he cannot reject you just on the basis of your religious beliefs and practices. If he insists on your answer, then ask him: "Do you not observe freedom of religion in your company?"

3. Do you have any criminal record?

If you're not a criminal and unless the job you are applying for involves handling of money, the job interviewer can't ask you if you have any criminal record - and only if that record involves embezzlement or similar illegal activities.

But if having a criminal record has no bearing for the position you are applying for and he insist on your answer, just say: "I can see no reason why having a criminal record will affect my qualification for the job."
