Emma Watson News And Updates: Actress Claims She's 'Taking A Year Away From Acting'

Former Harry Potter star and UN's HeforShe ambassador Emma Watson is taking a year away from acting to focus on self-development and more self-studies, Us Weekly reported.

In PAPER magazine's "Girl Crush" series, the 25-year-old whom fans have known to be Hermione, sat down for an interview with a fellow feminist - bell hooks. Watson told hooks that she's taking a year away from acting to focus on two things: her own personal development and to learn more about gender studies by reading more books and being on the ground to speak with people. She currently works with the United Nation's HeforShe movement and will dedicate a major part of her hiatus into deep-diving into her role.

"I'm taking a year away from acting to focus on two things, really," she said. "My own personal development is one. I know that you read a book a day."

"My own personal task is to read a book a week, and also to read a book a month as part of my book club. I'm doing a huge amount of reading and study just on my own. I almost thought about going and doing a year of gender studies, then I realized that I was learning so much by being on the ground and just speaking with people and doing my reading. That I was learning so much on my own. I actually wanted to keep on the path that I'm on. I'm reading a lot this year, and I want to do a lot of listening," she added,

She also told hooks how the character of Hermione spoke to her ever since she started reading the series when she was 8-years-old. "I just really identified with her. I was the girl in school whose hand shot up to answer the questions," Watson said.

"I was really eager to learn in an uncool way - in a super uncool way, actually. And then the character of Hermione gave me permission to be who I was," she continued.
