South Korean mobile phone giant, LG Electronic has released a near-futuristic Android smartphone model, the G5, at the Mobile World Congress 2016, in Barcelona. The model has caught the smartphone industry by storm with its fancy pluggable accessories. Ranging from a virtual reality headset called the LG 360VR, a detachable camera called the LG Cam Plus, and a smart home-monitoring, security camera device, called Rolling Bot. LG G5 had a lot to offer.
G5 becomes the first of a new platform of smartphones that are being developed as part of "modular mobile phones."
A relatively new development in the mobile computing area, modular phones are set to revolutionize the industry in the same way the introduction of modular concept in kitchen interiors had revolutionized it. Refining architectural interiors, the concept allowed individual upgrades of gadgets like dishwashers, built-in fridges, microwaves, sinks, hobs and stove, instead of the whole kitchen.
In the area of mobile phones, the modular concept will also allow easy upgrading of individual hardware like cameras, batteries, by making them detachable from the smartphone. Higher resolution cameras, improved storage chips, and larger batteries can easily be plugged into the core mobile handset with this feature.
LG G5's features were a sharp contrast to Samsung smartphones. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge looked more like the earlier versions, lacking in specifications that would excite smartphone buyers to upgrade.
Touted as the highlight of the MWC 2016, LG G5's features include the add-on modules of Cam Plus, Hi-Fi Plus; and the rolling, security robot Rolling Bot. The first two bring in astounding camera features and enriched audio features. Hi-Fi Plus is tuned by the iconic Bang & Olufsen bringing over-the-top listening quality to LG G5.
The excitement around the modular features of the LG G5 is expected to translate into higher smartphone sales.
Across the globe, smartphone sales have stagnated due to maturity of the Chinese market and currency pressure in emerging market segments.
LG Electronic's G5 is a flagship product launches a new platform with the stagnating smartphone genre. It allows users to take special effect pics, with its add-on camera, play back B&O grade audio and watch pics, videos on its VR. All of these features on a handheld smartphone are incredible, indeed!
