Summer Jobs: Why It’s A National Crisis, Obama Says

President Barack Obama recently called on business leaders to address the issue about giving today's youth the valuable experience they need which is why summer jobs have become a national crisis.

When President Obama cited that the young people today need to be connected to companies that can offer summer jobs, he explained that it was not about the money but the experience needed for their future. Valuable work experience can be offered by private companies, but it is reported that they are unsure about hiring inexperienced people especially now that there are mature workers who need the jobs more after the recession.

Summer jobs were not only a means of income for young people while waiting for classes to start again but it is also a means of getting experience and skills that they can apply in the future. Having these skills makes them desirable for employers. Summer jobs used to be tending the cash register at the local convenience store or delivering pizza in the hometown but for career oriented youths this is not just a means to pass the time but a means to gain skills and knowledge. Having a diverse resume can qualify a person for a specific field or industry.

Which was why President Obama has proposed a program in his new budget to help young Americans get into summer jobs plus including a year's paid work for 150,000 others who are out of school and out of work. Obama's consideration of the youth's need to be productive rather than sitting idle is the main reason behind this program. However, Republicans in Congress might be inclined to contradict this proposal because it's an idealogical platform.
