An army divided amongst itself is a 'fruit for the picking' to the enemy. Your company is somewhat like an army since you have a goal: to reach the top. In every day parlance, that means, to beat your rivals in business by getting more clients. So, if communication gaps exist in your team, your trip to the top will be bumpy.
Don't belabor the fact that communication gaps are already present in your team but start trying some solutions. Here are some steps that you must take in order to bridge those gaps.
1. Identify what the problem really is
Before trying to solve the supposed communication gap in your team, try to identify what is really causing the problem. Some of your employees may think there is a gap between them and other employees, but it could be something else. So, ask probing questions to the employees concerned before taking any actions.
2. Get a correct assessment of the communication problem
Now that you have identified the real culprit, determine which employee or employees are involved and to what extent are they having miscommunications.
3. Schedule a meeting for all concerned employees
Set a meeting for employees who are not in good speaking terms. The purpose for this meeting is to hear their sides. As they speak, examine their interpersonal relationships and take note of every problem that they seem to encounter, and think about the possible solutions for each.
3. Formulate the solution to each problem
With the help of the employees concerned, search for the right solutions for every communication gap they are experiencing. Try to engage them in devising practical and effective ways of solving each of these problems. Since they are partly responsible for crafting the remedies, there is a greater chance for the resolution of the problem.
4. Follow up
To avoid a resurgence of the communication gap between your employees, you need to follow-up their employee engagement. They need to feel that they are part of the same team working for the same goal.
