The internet and movie industry recently went wild after Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar after more than a decade in the business. While jokes and memes are in a frenzy about his recent win, DiCaprio himself made the best deprecating joke ever when he went to get his Oscar trophy engraved.
What viewers can see on the screen are actors walking the red carpet and making their speeches when they win the Oscar, but what they don't often know is that the trophy is not yet engraved. All of the Oscars have a blank slate. Nobody in the movie industry knows who the winners are except for the accountants.
Once the name is announced and the show has ended, the winners form an orderly line at the Governors Ball where they can then have their names engraved on their golden statues.
This was not only a historic moment for actor Leo DiCaprio, but for the person tasked to engrave his Oscar.
Variety captured the moment Leo DiCaprio walking toward the engraver tasked to work on his statue. It was an awkward moment for the engraver, being fronted by the biggest man of the hour after all. To ease the tension and maybe to add his own joke to the "meme" world, he decided to make small talk.
"Do you do this often? I wouldn't know," the actor said, showing he can make any mood lighter. After the engraving process, DiCaprio was handed with a pamphlet that told him how to take care of it.
Are you happy that Leo finally won an Oscar?
