Erin Andrews will be adding $55 million into her net worth as the Nashville jury awarded her the settlement for damages suffered after the peeping Tom scandal in 2008. According to the reports, she will receive the amount from Nashville Marriot and stalker Michael David Barrett.
Andrews had sued the Nashville Marriott's franchise owner West End Partners, the hotel's management Windsor Capital Group and Michael Barrett for $75 million. And after a full day of deliberations, the jury awarded her $55 million on Monday.
The panel of jury explained that Barrett, the stalker who secretly recorded a nude video of Andrews and posted it to the Internet, was responsible for 51 percent of the verdict, Fox News reported. After pleading guilty to stalking Andrews in three cities, altering peepholes in Columbus and Nashville, as well as shooting the videos in 2009, Barrett served prison time.
During the trial, Barrett admitted that his motivation for filming Andrews was financial. The two hotel companies, on the other hand, will share the remaining 49 percent of the settlement amount of almost $27 million after they were found at fault.
Meanwhile, Erin Andrews shared her message of gratitude on Twitter on Monday following the verdict of her $75 million civil lawsuit. E! News revealed that the verdict came after a week-long trial.
"I would like to thank the Nashville court, the court personnel and the jury for their service," Andrews said, as per People. "The support I've received from the people of Nashville has been overwhelming. I would also like to thank my family, friends, and legal team."
Erin Andrews, who has an estimated net worth of $20 million as Celebrity Net Worth listed, admitted that she suffered from humiliation and depression after her nude video was seen by millions. But the 37-year-old sportscaster said that she was grateful for the support she has received from other victims worldwide.
"I've been honored by all the support from victims around the world," she posted on Twitter. "Their outreach has helped me be able to stand up and hold accountable those whose job it is to protect everyone's safety, security and privacy."
While many believed that Erin Andrews' net worth will be $55 million richer because of the settlement, TMZ has learned that the amount will likely get reduced several times over. In fact, the publication claimed that Andrews "will never see a penny" from Barrett while Marriott will likely appeal the verdict, cutting the settlement amount to $20 million.
Considering the legal fees of around 40 percent, Andrews will be left with a much lesser amount. And since the award for emotional distress with any physical injuries is taxable, legal experts said she will likely end up getting only $6 million.
